Warlander
Registry Code: WAR
Also known as: Andalusian-Friesian
A Warlander is a cross between a PRE/Lusitano/Andalusian and Friesian, or the offspring thereof when such a cross is bred to another Warlander or back to a PRE/Lusitano/Andalusian or Friesian. Any horse registered as a Warlander must contain no more than 75% and no less than 25% of either breed in its bloodlines.
Warlanders must be no shorter than 14.2 hh (150 cm) by age 4 and cannot exceed 17.0 hh (173 cm), though 16.2 hh (168 cm) is ideal.
First generation Warlanders tend to be almost exclusively grey or black, oweing to Friesian breed standards and the genetic prevalence of grey and black in the Iberian and Friesian ancestors, respectively. Subsequent generations tend to also be predominantly grey or black, though any solid colour (excluding champagne dilutions) is acceptable.
