Danish Sport Pony

Also Known As: Danish Riding Pony


A recognized breed since the 1970s, the Danish Sport Pony is an athletic sport breed originating in Denmark. All Danish Riding Ponies are expected to have a well-formed head and neck, sloping shoulder and prominent whithers, typically have dark coat colours, and must not exceed 14.2 ½ hh (148 cm) in height. These ponies must be even tempered, as they are intended to be childrens' mounts. The ideal pony described as noble, expressive and harmonious.

The breed was developed using stock from the Connemara pony, New Forest pony, Welsh pony and Arabian horse, though influences from shorter stock of various Nordic sport breeds can also be found in some pedigrees.


Common Coat Colours: Black, Bay, Chestnut, Grey
Permitted Coat Colours: Any solid colour (excluding Champagne & Pearl dilutions), Roan, Sabino
