Finnish Riding Pony

Also Known As: Finnish Sport Pony

This is a sim breed! (Non-gaited, non-racing)

Created to fill a gap and mirror the other Nordic breed sections with a Sport/Riding pony, the ASNC has created the Finnish Riding Pony. Any horse standing no taller than 14.2 hh (148 cm) with no less than 50% Finnish bloodlines (or otherwise at least 3rd generation Finnish Riding Pony) may be registered as a Finnish Riding Pony, so long as it can pass either the ridability test or the drivability test required of pony type Finnhorses.

Recommended non-Finnish breeds for crossing are: other Nordic Riding/Sport pony breeds, Gotland Pony/Russ, Welsh, Connemara, New Forest Pony, British Riding Pony and German Riding Pony. Due to the breed restrictions on cross breeding, the ASNC does not recommend using the Icelandic Horse, Faroe Pony or Norwegian Fjord Horse in your Finnish Riding Pony breeding program.

Furthermore, the ASNC recommends breeding only Finnish Riding Pony x Finnish Riding Pony in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th generations to solidify the breed's standards before crossing out again to diversify the gene pool.
