Nordlandshest/Lyngshest

Also Known As: Northlands Horse, Northlands Pony

One of Norway's lesser-known breeds, the Nordlandshest/Lyngshest has two official breed names due to a despute among breeders. Nordlandshest means "Northlands Horse," referring to the region, and Lyngshest means "Lyngen Horse," referring to the specific area or origin for the breed. The first documentation of the breed is from 1898 in Lyngseidet, Troms

Typically feathered and thick-coated (especially in the winter), this willing, strong and eager horse is used as a packhorse, trail riding mount, and therapy riding horse, as well as being used for competition in dressage, show jumping and harness racing.
